he complexion of skin is determined by the amount of melanin pigment. Dark skin spots are usually due to an abnormal concentration in one area of the skin. Some of these are present at birth but most occur with age or as a result of overexposure to the sun's damaging rays.
aser treatment removes pigmented lesions with light energy. The rapid absorption of light energy causes the melanin to disintegrate and be carried away by the body’s natural mechanisms leaving the treated skin looking uniform in colour and texture.
he typical course involves three to four laser treatments each given four weeks apart. Occasionally, more laser treatments may be needed for certain individuals or conditions. Periodic occasional maintenance treatments may be prescribed for optimal, lasting results. Each laser treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.
mmediately following the laser treatment you may experience some redness, swelling and/or a slight darkening of pigmented areas. The redness and swelling usually disappear within one to three days. However darkened pigmentation may persist and flake off for up to one week following treatment. Makeup can be applied to the treated area if necessary. Application of SPF30 sun block on a daily basis is strongly recommended to prevent sun damage.
