How to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under Eyes for Men

Overview

In men, dark circles under the eyes can be caused by a lack of sleep, alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking, allergies, nasal congestion and exposure to the sun, states the Mayo Clinic. Additionally, dark circles may be caused by aging. When skin gets thinner, veins under the eyes can appear darker. Dark circles may be more difficult to hide in men because some women cover their dark circles with concealer or makeup. The best way to get rid of dark circles under the eyes is to eliminate the problem, but you can also use home remedies to temporarily reduce dark circles.

Step 1

Place a cold compress on your eyes. A cold compress, like a clean washcloth filled with ice, constricts the blood vessels underneath the skin, making eyes appear brighter. Additionally, a cold compress will reduce swelling, minimizing the appearance of puffy, sagging eyes.

Step 2

Get more sleep. Aim for 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night to prevent dark circles.

Step 3

Protect your eyes and face from the sun. The sun can cause pigment on the skin, making dark circles under the eyes appear worse. Wear sunglasses and sunscreen on your face when you are exposed to the sun.

Step 4

Rinse your sinuses with saline spray. Nasal congestion may make the veins between your eyes and nose darker, states the Mayo Clinic. Gently spray a saline nasal spray into your nose throughout the day as needed to eliminate nasal congestion.

Step 5

Take antihistamines and avoid allergens, when possible. If your eyes get watery and itchy around dogs, avoid dogs. Take an over-the-counter antihistimine for environmental allergens, which will reduce swelling and dark circles around the eye area.

Step 6

Consult your dermatologist about laser therapy. For stubborn circles that will not go away, laser treatment can repigment the skin underneath the eyes, making eyes appear brighter.
