Melanin Reducer- Can a Melanin reducer whiten your skin?

When you are thinking of whitening your skin using creams or some other topical agent, what you will discover is that most skin whitening creams inhibit the flow of melanin in your body. Melanin is the primary reason why our skin darkens and our body's defense against the harmful UV rays from the sun.

Melanin is also the culprit behind some of the more cosmetically harrowing problems ofhyperpigmentation, a condition that occurs when melanin reacts to inflammation on the skin (acne sufferers really have issues with this because this type of hyperpigmentation looks like acne scarring).

So, what melanin reducers are the best? Should you use bleaching creams with hydroquinone to help smooth out rough blemishes, or would you be better off looking at natural skin lighteners which use natural ingredients like Alpha Arbutin? What are the best natural skin bleaching creams out there? In this hub, I will discuss some of the better bleaching creams that focus on reducing or inhibiting melanin production....

What is Melanin good for?

Melanin is responsible for age spots, blemishes, uneven skin, dark spots, discoloration, freckles, melasma, acne scars and a host of other skin issues that we don't like. So all that said, what good does melanin do?

First of all, melanin is responsible for buffering the effects of some skin inflammation caused by the sun's UV rays. It basically darkens the skin to help buffer it from the effects of the sun. It also helps to keep the generation and proliferation of free radicals (which do damage the skin) to a minimum.

Most bleaching creams work to undue the problems that the sun cause to the skin by inihibiting melanin or more specifically, tyrosinase. This in effect will make overall skin tone lighter.

Melanin is not solely found in humans but also in plants and because of this, most of the natural skin whiteners use melanin inhibitors such as Alpha Arbutin, Beta Arbutin, absorbic acid, kojic acid and other melanin reducers to lighten skin naturally.
