How to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under the Eyes

Most everyone has experienced the dark circle that lurks under your eyes that makes us look exhausted and years older than what we are.

The skin that is under the eyes is thin and there are many blood vessels that are in this area that will show through the skin if they become dilated. There are fat pads that surround the eyes and the muscles that help close the eye hold the fat pads in place. As the years go on and we age the muscle and skin will lose their elasticity and that results in the sagging under the eyes, which in terms we call “bags”.

The cause of the dark circles are developed depends on various things such as
- Sleep deprivation will cause the blood vessels to be more visible
- A lot of sun exposure weakens the skin
- Fluid retention from a lot of salt or smoking will cause the blood vessels to dilate, become engorged and visible.
- Dehydration. Not drinking enough water will cause the skin to dehydrate and cause the face to look exhausted.

There are various treatments for “raccoon eyes” that will help diminish the appearance of the dark circles and help prevent them from becoming worse.

You may buy products in stores like creams, but there are also some home remedies that may help with the issue.
- Make sure you get an adequate amount of sleep each night
- Protect your skin with sunscreen when out in the sun with a SPF of 30 or greater
- Cover your eyes with cool teabags, non herbal tea is suggested.
- Cool cucumber slices over the eyes for 15 minutes
- Be sure to watch how much salt you consume in your diet
- Consuming Vitamin C not only helps fight off colds, but also strengthens blood vessel walls.

Creams that are bought at the store that contain nourishing antioxidants. Vitamins C, E and K and green-tea extracts help protect the skin and diminish the dark circles.

Another remedy to treat those unwanted dark circles is to see a dermatologist. They have lasers that can shrink the blood vessels and they charge anywhere from $300 up to $700. However this procedure isn’t for anyone.
