Get rid of Dark Circles

1 Sleep well: Lack of sleep is a major cause for dark circles. This happens because blood flow is restricted to one area of the face. At least eights hours of sleep is necessary to stay healthy and keep those dark circles at bay. 2 Eat right: Diet

contribute a lot to the way your skin looks. Get your doctor to check if you have iron deficiency as that can affect blood circulation. Dark circles can be a result of lack of nutrients transported by the blood.
3 Moisturise well: Use a good quality moisturizer under your eyes. Read the label for ingredients. Choose a cream that has vitamin C ,K and alpha hydroxy.
4 Sun guard is a must: Never step out of home without using a sunscreen of atleast SPF 30. Use the sunscreen well around the delicate eye area and don’t forget to wear sunglasses when you go out in the sun.
5 Home remedies: Home remedies can come in handy to get rid of stubborn dark circles. Put used tea bags in the freezer, allow them to sit for half-an-hour and then place them on your eyes for 10 minutes. Ingredients found in potato and cucumber are also effective to reduce dark circles. Soak cotton balls in cold potato juice or apply cool cucumber slices over your eyes to rejuvenate them and get rid of the unsightly dark circles.

Causes Of Dark Eye Circles

Are you worried about fighting your dark under-eye circles? Before you do so, you must first know the causes behind dark circles. Many a times you must have wondered about the cause of the dark eye circles in spite of abundant sleep. Sleep may be just one of the causes for dark circles. Dark circles only make you look exhausted, dull, boring and unattractive. So, get to these causes behind dark circles and try to avoid them as much as possible.
Makeup- If you have sensitive skin and are prone to allergies then that might be a cause for your dark eye circles. The skin under your eyes is the most supple and hence, it is affected first. Any eye makeup that you use might be responsible for your dark circles. So, always use hypo-allergic cosmetics that will not cause any harm to your skin.
Causes Of Dark Eye Circles

Diseases-
Anaemia or improper kidney function might also cause your dark circles. So if you are anaemic or suffer from improper kidney function consult a doctor and get medicines. This will not only cure the respective diseases but also reduce your black under-eye rings.
Fatigue And Sleep- Excessive work pressure may put extra stress on you both physically and mentally. This gets reflected in your eyes and you develop black under eye rings. Also lack of sleep or excessive sleep leads to dark eye circles. You should never sleep on your stomach as it puts pressure on the facial skin and eyes. The under eye region being the most tender part of all facial skin starts getting affected first.
Dehydration- Dehydration is also one of the causes for dark circles. Less fluid intake would lead to improper blood circulation in the body. This significantly affects the blood vessels under the eyes and you develop dark eye circles. So drink lots of water and stay hydrated the whole day.
Pigmentation- Exposure to sun shoots up the melanin formation in our skin. This skin colouring agent is to be found more in people with dark skin complexion. This causes dark skin patches under the eyes. So wear sunglasses or use an effective sun block before you step out in the sun next time.
Unhealthy Lifestyle- Smoking, drinking or excessive night outs may lead to dark circles under the eyes. Such excesses cause blood vessel dilation. As the skin under the eyes is thinner than any other part of the body, it swells and dark patches are formed on it.
Try to stay away from all these factors if you do not want to develop black under eye rings. Look all the more beautiful with flawless skin and no dark patches to spoil it.

Pigmentation Problems

I started noticing pigmentation on my upper cheek after giving birth to my first child. I applied a whitening serum and slowly, it faded away. But after my second pregnancy, the pigmentation returned with a vengeance!
My daily routine includes a cleanser, toner, whitening serum on the affected area, hydrating serum all over the face, moisturiser and sunblock.
I scrub my face weekly and alternate the whitening serum with a firming or pore refining mask, but my pigmentation is still obvious. The pores around my nose and below my lip clog easily. –Frustrated Mum
According to Dr David Orentreich, Clinique guiding dermatologist, hyperpigmentation is caused by an over production of melanin in a particular area.
Factors like lifestyle habits, diet, stress, lack of sleep, acne scarring, post inflammatory response, medication and hormonal changes can contribute to an over-production of melanin. In your case, it is due to hormonal changes – melasma or chlorasma as it is termed, appear symmetrically usually on the upper lip, cheekbones and the lower chin. Birth control pills and some other medications also impact hormones.
Pregnancy disrupts the hormonal system. After the birth of your first child, your body took time to return to normal. Then, the second pregnancy threw it into disarray again.
As far as the clogged pores are concerned, too many people associate clogged pores with an oily skin. Recent studies show that pores age like the rest of the skin by growing both larger and longer, forming a more elliptical shape as we get older. This is due to both excessive sebum production as well as sagging skin, a result of long-term damage to the underlying skin structure. To minimise pores, it is important to strengthen the skin so that it can better withstand sagging.
A basic skincare routine is important to keep the pores clean as dirt trapped in pores could enlarge them further.
As you have two different skin concerns, and they are due to different factors, you would need two different treatments. To address hyperpigmentation, Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector is recommended. It is formulated to match prescription strength efficacy in lightening dark spots.
Whilst most brightening serums cause dryness, Clinique’s Dark Spot Corrector is infused with powerful antioxidants such as Daniella ensifoliaand is gentle enough for daily use. Our medical testing indicates that after 12 weeks of use, there is a 58% reduction in dark spots.
Clinique will be launching a Pores Refining Solutions Correcting Serum next month that helps to strengthen skin and minimise pores. All Clinique products can be layered, meaning you can apply one serum on top of the other. Remember that sun exposure is one of the main causes of premature ageing so make sure you have sun protection.
Clinique will be giving Frustrated Mum a bottle of Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector worth RM230.
I’m turning 50 next year. I’ve noticed that my skin is getting worse with age. I had acne when I was young and it left me with deep pores and uneven skin. On top of that, fine lines are forming rather rapidly. I have a blotchy and aged look.
I have tried many skincare products but they just make my skin oily and reddish. I also suffer from a number of allergies to chemicals and minerals. I don’t use make-up as it tends to clog up my pores and results in pimples. Out of desperation I have resorted to antibacterial soap, but am told it makes the skin flaky and dry. – Lilian
Yes, antibacterial soap will give you dry and flaky skin, says Guerlain trainer Janet Low, because they usually have medical properties and are harsher on the skin. Your skin is very sensitive and you should be using an organic cleanser that is paraben-free.
Moisturisers are essential to your daily regimen as wrinkles are caused by a lack of water in the skin. Dehydrated skin will produce excessive sebum to balance the moisture level, therefore, at times, it might appear that you have oily skin.
It is natural to have fine lines at your age. Try a light textured moisturiser like Guerlain Super Aqua Refreshing Cream during the day time and a night cream at night. Most women see ageing signs when they are in their 30s, because the skin loses its elasticity and firmness due to work stress, environment factors and pollution. The fight against wrinkles and loss of firmness has been a major focus of Guerlain Research for many years.
Guerlain has highlighted that micro-tears (actual molecular microtrauma in skin tissue) have a role in the formation of wrinkles and loss of firmness.
Professor Desmoulière, a specialist in skin healing and tissue reconstruction, has worked with Guerlain to create Abeille Royale that uses the healing power of Pure Royale Concentrate, royal jelly derived from the black bee.
It has exceptional repairing power to heal the damage caused by micro-tears, and restructure and reconstruct the skin for smoother and firmer facial contours, thereby reducing the visibility of wrinkles on the skin.

Fact or Freckle: The Truth Behind 5 Beauty Myths

Whether we’ve been gently reprimanded by our mothers or swapped tips with friends, we’ve all heard certain beauty myths. It’s time we find out once and for all what’s a fact and what’s really a freckle (fiction).
Crossing your legs causes varicose veins: FRECKLE
Varicose veins are primarily impacted by factors like genetics and obesity. Crossing your legs is not harmful at all. In fact, standing, especially in heels, is more likely to cause varicose veins than sitting.
Drinking water will make skin more hydrated: FACT AND FRECKLE
While being adequately hydrated is certainly a factor of overall skin healthiness, drinking more water is not a replacement for moisturizers and creams. Keep drinking water, but don’t expect it to smooth out lines.
Putting toothpaste on a blemish will make it disappear: FRECKLE
While toothpaste does dry out the skin like a spot treatment, it also tends to irritate and can cause redness. Toothpaste kills bacteria in the mouth, not bacteria that causes acne. Instead, try a regular spot treatment, likeNeutrogena On the Spot Acne Treatment.
Sleeping on your back can help prevent wrinkles: FACT
Over an extended period of time, sleeping with your face smushed in the pillow can lead to wrinkles, regardless of your pillowcase’s fabric.
Plucking a gray hair will make ten more grow back in its place: FRECKLE
Plucking hair does not increase the number of total hair follicles, so pluck all you like. Seeing a few grays just may mean it’s time for a trip to the salon.

How To Remove Dark Spots On Face Caused By Acne

Dark spots left over after having suffered through acne can be as annoying to deal with as acne itself (if not even more so). These dark spots are areas of hyper pigmentation and are more common in people with darker skin, although you can get these dark spots with pale skin as well. If you have these dark spots, it's best to try and treat them as soon as possible. This goes for any type of acne scar, actually. The longer you wait to treat acne scars, the tougher they are to remove. That said, you can remove even old ones, or at least reduce their appearance to something you're happy with.
The more 'dermatologist approved' method is to purchase some skin lightening cream. What these products do is reduce the amount of melanin that's produced by the skin. Over time this will help to provide the person who's receiving the treatment with a more even skin tone, and lighter complexion. Skin whitening products are fairly effective at treating darks spots on the face, and I would certainly look into them if you are able to afford them. Any beautician or someone else who works closely with this sort of thing should be able to advise you on the best product for your particular skin type. This is more effective then buying something from a supermarket or off the internet.
If you don't want to go that route then you can try a more natural solution. Lemon juice is a very effective bleach for the skin and can help to fade these dark spots. Be careful with lemon juice - sometimes it just is far too strong for some skin types, so do a spot test and go from there. You may want to dilute the juice with some water. You can also use apple cider vinegar to help tone the skin. This can be applied to the whole face, a little like a face wash. You can try both lemons and the vinegar for the best results!
Lightening the skin is perhaps the easiest way to deal with these dark spots on the face. I know they're tough to deal with - but try the suggestions outlined in this article to see if they will make a difference to you. And remember there are plenty more effective acne scar reduction techniques that you can also try. With anything, often you'll have to try several things before you find one that works. Acne scarring - no different!

Ask the ESSENCE Beauty Editors: 'How Can I Fade Dark Spots on My Skin?'

By Nicole Marie Melton and Dr. Mona Gohara

Q: I have reached a standstill in clearing dark spots on my skin. Since the age of 10, I've had scarring from chicken pox and I've tried mild over-the-counter lighteners which didn't work.  As a last resort, I decided to try all natural products such as shea butter, but in the end I still do not have blemish-free skin.  Please help me! -Lola

A: Lola, sweet Lola.  If there is anyone who can relate to what you're going through it's ME.  I suffered adult acne three years ago which left behind severe scarring.  Thankfully I had a great dermatologist who guided me in the right direction back to clear skin.  As a result of my experience, I'm a huge proponent of putting your skin in the hands of experts which is why I reached out to Dr. Mona Gohara of Advanced DermCare Dermatology to get a few pointers for you.  Dr. Gohara assured me that it is possible to have clear skin again— to which I can attest from my own former scarring— and shared these expert tips to help your skin start anew.

Step 1: Learn The Lingo
Most of the time, when people talk about “scars” they are referring to a condition called post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). PIH occurs when the skin makes more melanin in response to injury  (acne bumps, bug bites, chicken pox, etc). Those with darker complexions are most likely to get PIH. Thankfully, PIH will fade with or without treatment-it’s just a waiting game.

Step 2: Choose The Right Wash
Anyone dealing with PIH should use a mild, granule-free cleanser each morning.   Washes that contain granules (those tiny beads found in exfoliants) cause little micro-tears on the face, which signal the skin to crank out more melanin. TryNeutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser or Cetaphil Antibacterial Cleansing Bar for optimal results.

Step 3: Establish Morning Routine Musts
Topical vitamin C is great at ushering PIH to the finish line.  It is actually best if used in tandem with a retinol product (see step 4). Each morning, apply a vitamin C gel, serum, or cream, depending on your skin type. Also, do not leave the house without putting SPF on - this is essential! The sunrays that you capture through windows in your car or at work are enough to worsen PIH.  Even light coming from bulbs in the office can darken facial spots- surprising but true! Multi-task by applying cosmetically elegant products, that won’t leave a white, chalky, film on your skin such asMurad Essential-C Day Moisture SPF 30, Origins Brighter By Nature SPF 35 Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer, or Oil of OlayRegenerist UV Defense Regenerating Lotion with SPF 15.

Step 4: Pigment Proof Your Skin in the PM Products containing retinol and hydroquinone are critical in the fight against PIH. Retinol, a vitamin A derivative, is a supreme skin exfoliator, which helps to correct blotchy, uneven complexions. It is also great at preventing pimples. Hydroquinone actually has the ability to stop melanin from forming in problem areas. To avoid irritation, use a pea size amount of each to the affected area on the face. Also, using them on alternate nights can help quell potential skin aggravation. Try Bliss No Zit Sherlock Oil Control Moisturizer as a retinol containing PM cream. No success? Ask a derm about prescription strength retinols and hydroquinone which can make a huge difference. If you have sensitive skin, retinol and hydroquinone may be too irritating. Instead, keep it simple with soy, a natural antidote to unwanted brown marks. TryAveeno Positively Radiant Daily Cleansing Pads with soy extract.

Step 5: Use At-Home Peels
Mild, at-home chemical peels are a nice complement to the treatment of PIH. They help by exfoliating the skin and fading spots. To avoid over drying, redness or unintended worsening of PIH do this one time every two weeks. Try Philosophy Microdelivery Multi-Use Peel Padsor Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Acne Mark Fading Peel. Both are gentle enough to get the job done without a hitch!
