Valuable Skin Care Tips

This list is provided by a Licensed Skin Specialist in an effort to assist consumers with common skin concerns today. This article is based on the most common questions & concerns of our skin care customers to date.
1. The use of a Daily Sunscreen offering both UVA & UVB protection is essential. Cumulative sun damage is a leading cause of premature aging. Research has also found sun damage to contribute to Rosacea, melanoma and more. Anti oxidants within your sunscreen may further protect your skin by offering free radical protection. We recommend a minimum SPF rating of 30. UVA rays which lead to skin cancer and wrinkles can penetrate the windshield of your car and light clothing. Be sure to use sunscreen year round!
2. Look for our professionals favorite ingredients in your products such as\" Hyaluronic Acid \"which holds up to 1000 times it\'s own weight in moisture. This valuable skin care ingredient plumps the skin and maintains moisture balance. Our bodies produce Hyaluronic Acid naturally but it is depleted as we age, so it is an essential component to your daily regimen. (Most of the Jan Marini product line contain this ingredient) Peptides are also the latest technology for plumping fine lines and wrinkles and are considered by some as \"non injectable botox\", make sure to consider these ingredients for anti-aging benefits.
3. Rosacea is considered by some a disease of vasomotor instability. It has been associated with cumulative sun damage and more common in fair skinned patients. There is no cure for the disease and is often associated with a red flushing of the skin, broken capillaries and acne in some cases. Recommended preventative measures include the use of daily sunscreen and non sensitizing skin care products. Also recommended: avoid saunas, hot spicy foods, extremely hot water on the face, alcohol (wine etc) and sun exposure can increase redness and exacerbate this skin condition. We have products today fortunately to assist in treating this skin condition.
4. Hyperpigmentation, (also referred to as age spots, melasma or pregnancy mask) is often the result of sun damage, hormonal changes or trauma to the skin. Effective products may contain combinations of kojic acid (licorice extract), glycolic acid, hydroquinone and azaleic acid which all have the ability to lighten discoloration. However, if you are not protecting your skin with...you guessed it, sunscreen.... chances are the discoloration will resurface. We love the bioglycolic lightening gel for our patients!
5. Acne is a disease that may be treated successfully with the use of products containing glycolic, salicylic acids & benzoyl peroxide. For resistant conditions prescription medication may be recommended. Please be advised to see a physician if you cannot treat your symptoms with over the counter products. Adult acne may be associated with Rosacea so sun protection and specialty products are essential in this case.
6. Professional Skin Treatments like microdermabrasion, lasers & or facials \"may\" exacerbate certain skin conditions if not administered by very experienced technicians. Much of what you do on a daily basis at home is going to contribute to your skins ultimate overall beauty. Please use caution in selecting treatments. Many \"feel\" good but may not be best for you.
7. What should your regimen consist of? A quality Cleanser, Exfoliant, Treatment product (acne/anti-aging), Eye Cream, Moisturizer & Daily Sun Protection should be applied in above order. Masks are optional. These products should be part of your daily regimen. (Sunscreen daytime only).
8. Eye creams should be applied with a dabbing motion around the orbital bone working inwards toward the bridge of your nose. This is the thinnest skin on the entire body & quite delicate. Use caution not to pull/stretch the area which may result in sagging or loose skin. Keep this in mind when removing eye makeup as well. Why do I need Eye Cream? Eye creams are specially formulated for this thinner, more sensitive area. They may also contain additional ingredients to address dark circles, crows feet, sagging lids etc. In addition, eye creams are quite often ophthalmologist tested for eye safety.
9. The neck and dcollet areas should not be neglected. These areas are vulnerable to aging/sagging as well. Often the dcollet (chest) area will reveal sun damage (age spots) as we age. Ease into your products slowly if you have not used products in this area previously. Start every other day or every 3rd until your skin is accustomed to the new ingredients. Apply your moisturizers to these areas daily.
10. Your hands tell all!. Regular exfoliation and hydration is essential to maintain the health and beauty of the hands. Our hand creams contain the essential ingredients for anti aging as well. Remember, your face may not reveal your age but in some cases the hands may! Use of glycolic acid to exfoliate and lightening gels for age spots may be just what you need to compliment your overall appearance. Jan Marini Age Intervention Hand cream is a favorite of ours!
11. Glycolic Acid is highly beneficial when incorporated for most skin concerns unless highly sensitive. Especially Anti Aging. As we age skin cells do not turn over as rapidly often resulting in a more sluggish appearance with little or no \"glow\"::. Of the Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Glycolic (derived from sugar cane) has the smallest molecular structure and can dissolve and turnover newer healthier cells for a healthy glow and minimize fine lines, age spots, scars & more! This highly effective ingredient has been know to stimulate collagen & elastic production for anti aging benefits! Also great for acne!
12. As we age, as a result of hormonal level changes our skin may become more dehydrated and lack luster, but our hair and eyebrows and eyelashes may also experience thinning & sparse areas. Rest assured we have products today to address all of these concerns!. Thicker, more lustrous hair can be yours with the latest technology. Our specialists have tried the leading eyelash conditioners and eyelash products & we offer what we found to be most effective, hundreds of satisfied customers to date! Now gorgeous eyelashes can belong to everyone with either of our favorites, Revitalash, MD Lash Factor or Jan Marini Age Intervention Eyelash Conditioner.
